A remake of Palaivanacholai (Tamil)
Directed by Robert-Rajasekaran.
manchupallaki has exceptionally good
songs with high lyrical value.
Chiranjeevi about Vamsy (in an interview
with Sri for telugucinema.com):
"In that movie(manchupallaki) he thought I should play the main character
which falls in love with Suhasini. Vamsy approached me through producer Edida
Nageshwara Rao garu while I was working for his 'Subhalekha' . I was also
doing 'Intlo Ramayya Vedilo krishnayya' then. I agreed to do the role".
"He is a different kind of director all together. He never used to go the
conventional way. I was like, "who is this guy, he is doing a good
job". His thoughts were novel, his approach was unique. Shot cutting was
different, shot division was different, taking was different, narration was
too good. Also, he has a great sense for music. Songs in Vamsy's movies are
wonderful. I particularly like the song 'meghama dehama' sung by janaki. It's
one of my favorites. Not only that one film, he did so many other musicals
with Raaja (Ilayaraja). His editing sense is exceptional. He is someone
who always goes for innovation".

In Suhasini's words, "It's about a platonic friendship between
five guys and a very special, but simple girl! I played the role of the girl.
I was still at film school when I acted in this film! I used to rush to catch
a bus to go to college between scenes! I die in the film!" .
Suhasini played the same role in the Tamil too. Palaivanacholai was released
in 1981. She was still going to school then.
